It's been ages since I posted something on this blog. Do I have a reason for this? Laziness would be the best guess. I'm gonna continue with the things I find intriguing e.g. music, books and movies. Maybe some food here and there.
The title refers to 2 songs from 2 artists which every music devotee should not miss: Led Zeppelin & Link Wray. The strange thing is that I started listening to these bands when I was completely hooked on hardcore. Still am but I just listen to a whole lot more nowadays. I started to buy vinyl records so I dusted off the recordplayer my dad had and went through his vinyl collection, I only found a couple of records that I liked. Most importantly of course was The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. With that record my interest in old rock records started. Unfortunately my dad had been somewhat of a softie in his younger years so his record wasn't filled with hard sixties/seventies music. He listened to Simon and Garfunkel. Not bad but certainly then, not my thing.
Like with Pink Floyd I just traced bandnames I knew in my head that probably were from that classic era of rock music, so I started to listen to Led Zeppelin. It took me a long time to really appreciate them but hey, I was listening alot to bands like Rise and Fall at the time. Now I can't let a week pass without listening to one of their records. Each record has its own feel and the evolution the band went through is still something I admire. A couple of weeks ago I watched The Song Remains The Same documentary, it's hard to describe but in a way it captures the live essence of the band perfectly. A plus for me is that you get an "insight" in the minds of the bandmembers, each have their own normal scene and dream scene. Robert Plant dressed as a knight and riding a horse and then rescuing a lady? Epic doesn't do this justice.
I got into Link Wray a bit later on, I can't remember the exact circumstances. I probably read his name somewhere and checked it out. He's best known for the song Rumble which features some of the very first distortion known to man. In terms of music history I'd say that's pretty huge. But a song that I would recommend to everybody would be The Shadow Knows, this truly is music that I still find to this day eerie. That laughter brings chills down my spines.
