Ok, I decided it was the time for a Pink Floyd post, maybe a short one but definitely not the last one on this blog.
I discovered them through the record collection of my dad which I was browsing and I stumbled upon the LP of The Dark Side Of The Moon, I knew it was a Pink Floyd record but I never could have guessed the tremendous impact it had on me. From the moment the needle of my recordplayer touched the vinyl I was sold (well, actually from the moment you can hear something). It quickly became my favourite record of all time, everything just checks out you know.
But enough about The Dark Side Of The Moon, maybe one day I will do a retrospective review but until then I merely have the following to say:
Yesterday I went to the local library and when I was looking through the music dvd's I saw this:
Needless to say I was siked to see some stuff of them, the insert promised liveshows & interviews, awesome. When I put the dvd into my player, the first thing I noticed was the poor quality of image & sound and that for a band whose sound was immensely important... Maybe the livefootage & interviews will make up for this.... not! The livefootage is all footage when Waters had already quit the band and is almost only footage from the last two decades. The interviews are nice but again no Waters... And we all know that the band was at his best when Waters was still in the band. Also between the footage & interviews there are so-called "experts" who look straight into the camera giving an explanation, I had the feeling I was watching some TelSell show where someone not interested is trying to sell a product.
And then something about my title, I know some people will disagree with the following but hey...
Wish You Were Here is always been labeled as a worthy successor of The Dark Side Of The Moon, I disagree. The songs Shine On You Crazy Diamonds (pt1-9) are without a doubt the best of that record. I can't seem to get into the rest... So while most people think Wish You Were Here is an equal record (or some even find it better) of The Dark Side Of The Moon, the latter will always be my favourite and for the moment Wish You Were Here just can't live up to my high expectations.
