Louisville's Finest

COLISEUM Blind In One Eye - Music Video from Coliseum on Vimeo.

With the release of their third album, House With A Curse, Coliseum sets the bar very high. Like so many bands, this album was the difficult third one but how they triumph. While the 2 songs they released before the actual record came out, were very much a continuation of their previous efforts e.g. No Salvation LP and the True Quiet/Last Wave EP, in a way. In those songs you can already detect a part of the direction they're going to take you on for the rest of the album. Songs like Isela Vega en Lost in Groningen show a break with their previous material. Particularly the change in the drums is very noticeable: Chris Maggio had this d-beat style of drumming which worked very well but Carter Wilson steps it up a notch and it's his drumming which makes this album so different from their previous ones but also it adds another dimension. Without a shadow of a doubt is he the right man for the job. If my rambling doesn't convince you, this a quote from a review: "If early Coliseum was Black Flag then this Coliseum is the Minutemen" or something along those lines anyway. That sure got my blood pumped. This will be in my top 10 yearlist for sure.
House With A Curse is being released by Temporary Residence and hits the stores today on June 22nd in the US.
